Only Citizens Vote/Dismantle Discriminatory DEI

From Heritage Action for America, July 8, 2024: Saturday Summary.

Please contact your elected officials!!

We hope that you had a restful and celebratory Independence Day! July 4, 1776 gave birth to the greatest nation the world has ever known. We look forward to working beside you to continue to preserve the ideals of the American revolution—liberty, self determination, and limited government— for the next generation.

Due to the July 4th holiday, Congress has been on recess this past week. When they return, there will be important legislation for them to address:

Restoring and Maintaining Election Integrity

There are currently two major pieces of legislation before Congress that will dramatically improve the integrity of our elections.Restoring and maintaining faith in the security of citizens’ votes is essential to the health of our republic. Together, the Equal Representation Act and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act will help make sure that it is easy to vote, and hard to cheat.Equal Representation Act (S. 3659/H.R. 7109)The Equal Representation Act will ensure that only American citizens will be counted towards representation and electoral college delegation. This seems like a no-brainer, but in 2010 the question of citizenship was removed from the U.S. Census, which is used to determine every state’s representation in Congress and power in the electoral college. Each congressional district, (equivalent to one representative in the House of Representatives and one Electoral College delegate in the race for President) is designed to include approximately 750,000 U.S. citizens. But without the distinction between citizen and non-citizen, that 750,000 could include an untold number of illegal aliens - at least 9,874,612 of which have crossed our border since 2021.Nearly 10 million people is equivalent to 13 congressional districts and 13 electoral delegates…and that’s just counting that amount that have entered over the past three years.

Needless to say: Only American citizens should be counted toward American representation and electoral power.Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and Reps. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.) and Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) have introduced legislation in both chambers of Congress to re-insert the question of citizenship into the U.S. Census so that only American citizens will be represented in Congress and the Electoral College. Thanks to Heritage Action’s Key Vote for cosponsorship and YOUR support, these bills have already won dozens of cosponsors in the Senate and passed the House of Representatives.>>>Call your senator and urge them to support the Equal Representation Act.Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (H.R. 8281)Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) has introduced this bill to very simply ensure states require proof of citizenship before allowing individuals to vote. This seems like a simple, bipartisan idea—but the Left refuses to help protect our votes. While citizenship is already required to vote, many states have little to no requirements for proving citizenship at the polls. For example, many states accept drivers’ licenses as proof of citizenship, but do not require proof of citizenship to acquire that drivers’ license. This makes it impossible to tell who is really eligible to vote in our elections. With wide open borders and illegal aliens flooding our country, security loopholes must be closed. If the loopholes are not closed, it creates a number of opportunities for non-citizens to vote in our elections. The SAVE Act would end these loopholes and bring greater integrity to our elections. It is expected that it will receive a vote on the House floor next week. Heritage Action anticipates scoring this vote as a Key Vote and have the results scored on our legislative scorecard.

End Federal Discrimination

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) have introduced The Dismantle DEI Act (S. 4516 / H.R. 8706) to comprehensively eliminate taxpayer funding of DEI federal offices, programs, grants, and trainings. The Left is trying to bring us back in time by using immutable characteristics such as race or sex as hiring criteria instead of an individual’s ability to perform the job. This Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) agenda is being used in the federal bureaucracy and is a form of unconstitutional discrimination that guarantees that under-qualified people will get jobs whose duties they can’t fulfill.

This is no way to treat people, and it’s no way to run America’s federal government. Heritage Action has included this bill as a Key Vote and cosponsorship of the bill will be recorded on our legislative scorecard.>>>Call your Senators and Representative and tell them to dismantle DEI.Thank you for all the work that you do to keep the conservative movement advancing.

In Case You Missed It

In Trump v. U.S., the Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling in favor of presidential immunity. The majority opinion, written by Chief Justice John Roberts, writes that presidents are entitled to broad immunity from criminal prosecution after they leave office for acts they committed while still in office.

This has favorable implications for former President Trump who argued that he is immune from criminal prosecution for his actions related to the 2020 election and on January 6, 2021. The case now returns to a lower court where they will again adjudicate the case to determine if Trump can still be prosecuted under the new criteria set by the Supreme Court. For a more in-depth analysis of this case and other decisions from the Supreme Court this summer, >>>Click HEREFrom all of us at Heritage Action, thank you for all that you do.- Ryan and the Heritage Action team
